The Boston Printmakers Mission Statement

The purposes of the Organization are to:

* Promote public knowledge, understanding, and support for printmaking

* Encourage and support artists working in printmaking

* Promote excellence in printmaking

* Support innovation within the field of printmaking

The Boston Printmakers has provided New England access to fine art printmaking since 1948—a tradition that continues today with the North American Print Biennial, a competitive exhibition showcasing the most current work by artists in the United States and Canada. Works are selected by a curator of national stature producing a unique exhibition for New England that informs students, artists, faculty and the public through fine examples of print media, while recognizing quality printmaking. We support further learning, and professional experience and the recognition of student work through the Arches Student Print Exhibition, which runs concurrently with the Biennial. We encourage a dialogue in the print community through our newsletters. We sponsor traveling and member shows that debut in the Boston Area, providing further cultural and learning opportunities to greater New England. Our traveling shows reach across the U.S. and Canada. We support travel and international sharing through printmaking exhibitions and travel opportunities. The Boston Printmakers is a non-profit, volunteer organization. We recently completed the publication of 60 Years of North American Prints, 1947-2007, written by David Acton.
