Artists Demo on Saturday Dec 6, 2:30-3:00 PM
As an archaeologist I trained to take the jumble of the amorphous and reconstruct environments, beliefs, identities. As an artist I continue to focus on these kinds of issues, addressing in particular our temporal sense of identity. I juxtapose the familiar and the unknown, the conscious and the subconscious. I release memory. I wonder who we are at this moment.
The natural world and artifacts we create in relation to that world inspire and influence my work. The simplicity of line in nature speaks to us in a way that is intuitive. It is about wandering and discovery. I follow and respond.
Whether by process, material or imagery, water is a recurring leitmotif.
The sea holds me captive. It is our pulse; its ebb and flow bears ideas,
thoughts and recollections. It is the continuum that binds past with future.
